In the times before the Spaniards, just North of where San Jose now lies, lived a tribe of Terrabas and their beautiful Princess: «Turi Ulha», she lived peacefully amongst her people, where her father, the «Cacique» ruled. However, inside, she kept a dark secret. Turi Ulha had one day met a great warrior in the forest and they had fallen deeply in love, but had soon discovered their tribes were blood enemies.
Thus one day the warrior, who had a forehead like a mountain, arrived to where the tribe was to convinced Turi Ulha, to go away with him, as she was the flower of this valley.
The Princess was also so in love with the warrior that she agreed and they decided to escape to where neither tribe would encounter them.
Only a few close friends accompanied the two and later when the «Cacique» father of the Princess, discovered what had happened, he became very angry and pursued the couple with his warriors.
The fugitives tried to escape through the passes of the mountains but when they heard their pursuers closing in,the great warrior, for his love, the one with a great forehead like a mountain, turned to defend the others and he fell dead before his attackers.
His soul left his cold body and continued to flee through the forest and Turi Ulha wished to climb also to the summit, where she knew her dead love’s soul would be.
Then as she continued to ascend, with her pursuers close behind, a marvelous thing occurred…..
Slowly, so slowly, their bodies began to transform, their skin changed to silken wings and they suddenly took flight….they had transformed into butterflies and they flew off to reach the skies!
Is for this reason that today you will find, great quantities of butterflies, specially the awesome Blue Morphos butterfly, along the magic ridges and valleys of Mount Zurqui, the dream place where CheTica Mountain Lodge for your body and soul healing and enjoyment !
